My wife's green card is up in July of this year and our lawyer who helped us with her getting the green card initially just sent us a letter letting us know we should begin thinking about preparing to file for the petition to remove conditional residence. We are glad we used them in the beginning as the whole process was very new to us and wanted to make sure it was done correctly, but just for their fee alone they said it could get up to $1,500 (hourly rate).
Is this something most people do themselves and if so any tips or help on what to do?
My wife and I have been living in our house for three years now and have tons of pictures, some credit cards in both names, letters, cards, etc. Only thing is because I purchased the house before we got married and she wasn't a resident all of the utilities and house are still in my name. We just haven't gotten around to changing them due to being busy in day-to-day things. Would this cause a problem and should we focus on getting all of this in both our names?
Our insurance is also separate due to an error on my part when we got married and my job won't put her on my insurance now unless she gets pregnant (which we're working on, but no luck yet!
)
Thanks for any insight/help into this process!
