folks, here is my situation. i am a canadian landed pr as of sept 22nd and i do have my pr card now. but i am working in india right now. i landed in canada on sept 23, 2003 and left back to india on sept 30, 2003. so my stay in canada is only for about 8 days, in year 2003. now i do want to file my canadian tax returns from india. can i do that? if so, how do i go about it? i am filing my US tax returns from here. please help me with any pointers, thanks.

more information: i am earning my salary in india and have some income in the US (only bank interests and dividends). no income in canada though.

why not? how different am i from being a part year resident and then becoming a non-resident? non-residents still need to file tax returns right? please let me know, thanks.

Non Residents file taxes on Income earned in Canada

Residents file taxes on their world income

You have none and you would stayed for less than 10 days in canada in last year . There is no reason for which you need to .

You may WANT to but you do not NEED to.

i did have about $3.50 of bank interest as income from canada as a whole, nothing else. so should i file or not?

what do you folks suggest? if i filed for returns, it would help me in applying for my spouse at a later time. isnt it?

or if i dont file for year 2003, would it affect my applying for a spouse PR later on?

You cannot file for your spouse if you do not live in canada .

You do not file taxes till you live in canada

SO when you move then file and sponsor her
