Filing AP on your own

Has anybody applied for AP without going thru a lawyer? My lawyer tells me that AP can be applied "in person" at the local INS/BCIS office and can be gotten within a day of course after showing the required documents. Is that a true/complete statement?Any gotchas?

So one just goes to the local BCIS office, now in my case my LC is for a job location in Kansas but I am currently located in the Baltimore, Maryland area. Can I go to a local office in Baltimore, Maryland area or do I need to go to the one in Kansas ? Also, how long does this "instant AP" take?days/months/years(hope not)
