Hi,

I and my son, who are 17 years old, will be qualified to apply US citizen next month.

Can some immigration experts please help to answer or discuss the following questions regarding file N-400 and N-600 together.

1. Can I file N-400 for myself and file N-600 for my son together?
2. If yes, I not sure how to fill in the parent's naturalization number?
3. What if my case approved after my son older than 18 years?

Thanks
Lei

1 - At this time, only you need to file N-400. You cannot file N-600 for your son yet.
2 - If you become citizen, before your son is 18 years, and assuming that your son is permanent resident at that time, he will be automatically a US citizen by you taking the oath. After you become a US Citizen, you can apply for his US passport along with your own passport application, and you can file a N-600 for his Certificate of Citizenship, which will be an additional documentation for him.
3 - If you become a US Citizen, and your son is more than 18 years, then he will have to file N-400 on his own, and go thru' the naturalization process on his own.

How about his mother? Is she a US citizen. If she is, then your son can file N-600 now, if not, then he must wait until one of you becomes a USC. And if your son reaches his 18 years by then, he would need to file N-400, as you were already told.
