File I-485 myself

Hello,

I have hired my lawyer for 5 years with Labor Certf., I-140. He kept raising the fee. Now for I-485 he wanted to charge me more if there is RFE in the future. I feel very uncomfortable about this.

Could I file I-485 myself without my lawyer? Are there any original documents needed from my lawyer for I-485. If not, I have all copies and a lawyer should not be necessary.

What should I tell my lawyer to terminate our agreement that has never been honored? Would he mess up my case if I discontinue our agreement?

Thanks.

Sincerely,

Of course you can file I-485 yourself, I did so (I had a lawyer for I-140).
For I-140 I thought the cover letter was important, so I did with lawyer's help.
I-485 is basically filling forms. You can find details in this great forum; I did not know about it when I filed I-485 but I still managed this filing.
RFE should be no problem also, I had it because my doctor forgot to mark a box (and I did not know because it was in a sealed envelope), so I simply went back and the doctor's office got it corrected for me.
I had original approval notice for I-140 from my lawyer, but I never needed it for I-485 (I submitted a copy).
