File AP and leave US and enter on H1B?

I have a valid H1B extension till Feb 2008 and on 8th year extension. Can I file AP along with AOS, receive the receipt no. and fly out of US? Also if AP is received in mail box should I present in US physically to receive it? what happens if I am out of US when AP is received in mail and I enter on H1B? will this cause any problem now or in future?

Can I use this AP for future travels?
