Fiance question and looking for hope

Hi everyone. I am engaged to a man from Manchester, England (I am a US citizen in Orlando, FL) and am trying to figure out the best avenue for us to get married. We have been together for about 8 months and known each other for about a year and a half. We are planning on eloping in September 2007.

Our issue is that we are hearing from all sides that it is nearly impossible to obtain a fiance visa. It's disheartening to think that we could be disallowed from marrying based on our citizenships. We cant afford to live in England right now so that isnt an option. What has everyone's experience with this been? How long does it take, what are some of the common "snags" in the road? Would it be easier for him to come on a visitor visa with intentions to marry and then return to England to file the residency status change? Any help, hope and information would be greatly and sincerely appreciated. I am heartsick with the thought that we are never going to be able to get married and live "happily ever after".

Thanks again and best regards,
Laura (and Jimmy)

I never heard that it is impossible to obtain a Fiance visa. I think, that you should apply ASAP.

It is not impossible to get a fiance visa at all. It will probably take 4-6 months for your fiancee to get here. I agree. Apply right away!!!

I don't even know why you should be talking about being impossible. You have the option of applying for K-1 visa and GOD willing everything should go well. Having said that please take care to fill the application (I-129F) accurately and honestly without leaving out any material fact. All will work well and you should have your Fiance visa in 6-8 months if not earlier. Be positive and apply asap. All the best.

PS: please use the latest I-129F application since some changes have been made to the application form. Check out www.uscis.gov for the latest form.

Thank you all for the replies. We have been putting off filing for fear that it might be fruitless but we do need to at least try. I will be getting it in before Christmas. Thanks again.

Me TOO

Hi, I live very close to you (about 30 minutes north of Oralndo)and I am going through the same thing. I just filed ...finally...the I-129f for my fiance who is in Mexico at this time. He is trying to bring his children back with him. My biggest problem is the mail and how long it is taking me to receive important papers from Mexico that the immigration office needs to complete the process. He has mailed the items twice and I still have not received them.
:( I hope this is not the case for you. Good luck and my God Bless. Email and tell me how you are doing. It would be great to know of someone else that is going through the same thing, especially so close by.

Brenda :)
