If someone works as a consultant/contractor on w2(taxes for all w2s paid) and has few employers as a result of short term projects in employment history - can it have any impact on citizenship decision? Should I hire attorney because of this?

Thanks in advance!

If you are doing "short term projects" as a consultant/contractor, wouldn't you have a long list in your employment history?

I've had the same job for 7 years (6 at the time of my N-400 application). I filled in only 1 line.

I think that the point of that list is to assist in the other evaluations (where did you live, are you a security risk, etc). I don't think you get evaluated based on how often you changed jobs or who you work for. (but, what do I know)

As flydog says, its not a questions of whether you were gainfully employed, but what else that employment tells USCIS about your case.

One common use of the data is to substantiate if you worked for the company that sponsored you for your GC (assuming it was employment based). Another use is to back up your residency claims.

Certainly its not perfect evidence, but so long as all the pieces assemble to tell a consistent story, your case will proceed smoothly.
