FBI response to name-check status requests

People, could you share your recent experience of timeline of getting an answer from FBI to your requests of your name check status?
They do not answer the phone anymore, no voicemail system, the only way to submit a request is by email, is it not? And how soon did you get your emails answered if ever?

The response time to emails used to be approximately 6 months. But other members have posted that the FBI no longer responds to email inquiries.

If you can get your rep to write to them, they should respond to him/her. However, some reps do not get involved with the namecheck as it is a "national security" issue.

Will writing directly to any of those names mentioned in the posts by Rahul do the trick of making them respond?

No, Nothing. I managed to talk to somebody in the FBI name check program today . The only thing I got is that they are working on a special project to clear the backlog of year 2003 and 2004 (it seems they are done with 2002). She said they no longer respond to any communication methods (mail, email, faxes) and all the resources are put into this project. It seems they have a kind of deadline that they are trying to meet.

Another thing that I got annoied with is that she said that they 2.7 Million names in the backlog

Actually I got the same number from a responder yesterday, possibly the same person. Don't you think we are doomed :(?

2004 really?

Steve,

Did the FBI respondent really say they are working on a project to clear names from 2003 and 2004?

Mine is Dec 2004.

I wonder how long their "special" project will take now.

Maybe we can write email to find status of the "special" project which will cause them to create another "very special" project to answer those emails.

I cant beleive they need a special project to do their job.

You seem to have a good source in the FBI. How about we all chip in and buy a real big present to this lady and she can provide us weekly updates on this "special" project.

She was really rude actually and hung up on me.
Unfortunately she told me of a special project of 2002-2003 backlog, not 2004,
and unless they processed the whole year in less than a day ... she does not even know what they are working on

Guys, I"m in the same shoes,- waiting for name check clearance. Priority date Oct 20th, 2004. Interview was on Sep.16th, 2005.
When I called FBI last month they(she) told me that the "special project" is for year 2002( other posts said same thing). Now it seems 2003 came into a picture. Not sure about 2004. But this lady also told me that eventhough they're working on 2002, it doesn't mean they're not working on 2004 (just another team). Which i'm sure is true, because a lot of people get their clearances before interviews, even 2005 people.
It is hard to track the progress since a lot of people dissappear from this forum after they got all cleared. But I would still like to know if there is ANY average waiting time for name check clearance AFTER interview. Do they(FBI) at least try to get it done within 120 days after interview? I know it takes much longer for some applicants, but what about majority?

Hi Folks,

How do I find out whether my name check is pending or not in the first place? I submitted my N400 application in July, 2005. FP was cleared according to the FBI. Just wondering which number to call about name check status.

Thanks!

You won't get a status of your name check over the phone. You can visit you local DO and ask about it, but what's the point? You can't do anythig to expedite it, anyway. Wait for your interview, and you'll find out at the end of the interview if all the checks were cleared for you or not.
