FBI name check files lost (2002)

Hi everyone. As a person with a Dec. 2002 RD (FP1 Feb. 2003, FP2 Nov. 2004) I have been watching the related thread closely talking about the FBI having lost some files submitted during 2002 during the namecheck process. I have a few questions I'm hoping people can answer. Does anyone know the receipt dates for the files that have been lost. Or is it any petitions that were submitted in 2002. Is there any way to find out if my (or anyone else's) file is one that was lost. And can the FBI be contacted directly about this to update us on the status of our name check (and if so, what information will they need to provide the update, such as INS receipt numbers or fingerprint documentation.

Any other infomation people can provide about the "lost files" would be appreciated too.

Keep your alien number ready. Usually there won't be a problem. But some times they might turn down your request for information. Insist for information and tell them you want to check the status as it's taking unusually long time.

Is that the FP inquiry number? I asked them regarding my name check status, but they redirected to another number/Dept. Could you share your experience?
 
I called them today

Yes this is the number you have to call. Follow the menu properly.

Choose 1) Private Individual
2) Choose Agency

Tell them this is for immigration. They will ask for Alien number and last name.

Thank you. But last time when I called, they only provided me the information regarding my fingprint, when I asked status of my name check, they asked me to call the central FBI. How did they answer your request for name check status check/ THanks,
 
Name check and Background check done by same agency?

Well! I am under the impression that FP and name check is done by the same agency in FBI. When I called FBI I asked for the status of background check for immigration. They took my alien number and told me that my file was sent back to CIS with in two days of FP.

If name check service is different then it's a news to me. Please give me the central FBI number they gave you.
 
I had the same experience, they gave me FP details but said they didn't have info for namecheck- just said I would need to contact USCIS to find out where to ask. The only option I am aware of is the email check- which is taking months to get back to you. I too am wondering ont he delay.
 
Name check is totally different than the FP. So I think they meant they sent back your FP to USCIS after FP done. FBI Central only accepts email inquiry now regarding the status of namecheck: fbinncp@ic.fbi.gov. Usually you may get response in 7 - 8 weeks.
