FBI clearance

Hi,
I'm a DV2006 winner, and living outside the US now. I have lived in US for 6 years. Do I need to provide an FBI clearance letter during my interview? Or the consular will check my criminal record directly with FBI?

Your help is greatly appreciated ....
 
They do FBI check. If you want, you can get police certificate from the county sheriff you lived in US. But from others people experiences, it is not needed.
