Don't worry much. As you may have heard INS has instituted new rules as far as FBI name checks. Prior to Nov 2002 if 3 months had elsapsed from inquiry and FBI had not responded, INS assumed that the case cleared and proceeded processing. In Nov 2002 all that changed - now they are required to wait for the reply, which caused a complete halt of I-485 adjudications while INS and FBI were establishing the new procedure.
It seems that now INS is coming out of that freeze - NSC and VSC and some local INS offices are approving cases, however the whole ordeal has created a backlog of otherwise processed but not cleared applications. It appears that yours is one of them.
INS claims that the new system will enable them to clear the backlog, but that remains to be seen. Overall I don't think you should be concerned... it will just take more time.
As far as name hits - well, I'm not an expert there, but I think it works like this - FBI can either find record for the person ( or what appears to be the correct record - name clashes do happen ) or not. If the record is not found, FBI sends "NO IDENT" response to INS, which is actually the best outcome. If the file has been locaed, FBI sends "IDENT" response accompanied by details. That's called a "hit". If this happens, the case gets transafered to another INS department for further investigation, which is not necessarily bad but can take time.
In any event, nothing if the information that you have received at local INS indicates that there have been a "hit" - mosly likely you will get your approvals soon.
Hope this helps and good luck
