A week after I did my finger printing, I got a call, at my work, from the local FBI office. The officer said he would like to talk/interview me. Two days after, two officers came to my work place. They asked all the details about me and my family. The whole thing went on for an hour. They also took notes of all the conversation.

Anyone heard of this type of check?

I have seen one occasion like that in this forum. If you assume that FBI visit is related to your recent fingerprinting then they have a "hit" on your FPs and wanted to check you out. If it was something serious - they would have arrested you without letting you know ahead of time, right?

If you happened to be from China and work with sensitive technologies (or on a government project) FBI might check you out just to be on a safe side due to recent spying events with Chineese nationals.
Even your work might have requested your clearance as a part of a team working on a government project - it is frequently a requirement. In this case it is not FP-related. And they came to see you at work rather than home - so most probably it is related to your project.
