FBI called back for the name check

I called and faxed FBI about the name check less than two weeks ago and just got call back to tell the following,
My name check was completed a year ago and my wife's name was just cleared on 11th.
But USBCIS told us before that we both are under name check. I think we were told so was because my wife is primary and they will not process my case without get cleared on my wife.
So, I think we will hear something pretty soon.

Can you please post the fax number... I would like to send in a question on if the name check had completed for me too ... just for the heck of it..

What kind of inquiry letter do we have to send about name check. Do you have a format for the letter.

Thanks for the fax number... just faxed a quick inquiry letter on Status verification of the Name check for me, my spouse and our daughter ..

lets see what response I get

Well since I am not a lawyer or anyone who can offer a legal or even authentic advice. But I simply wrote a few curtecy sentences and include the following information,

Name:
DOB:
Alien Registration number:
Phone #:
 
What does a name check mean? How do they check it? back to the country you came from? Does that happen along with fingerprints?
 
I don't have an exact answer. From my learned from this forum,

Name check is also called "Additional security check" or "Criminal record check". This is added process after 09-11. Basically checks if there are bad records associated with your name.

I don't know by what order they picked your name and run the check.
My details? It is embarrasing (not for me),

FBI name check expiry

Does any one know if FBI name check expires? any time limit for it like fingerprints?
