Favorable recommendation and waiting for final decision

Hi,
I applied for J1 waiver to DOS on September 20, 2005 based on No Objection Statement from Japan and received "Favourable recommendation" on January 20, 2006. USCIS (Texas Service Center) received the case on January 23 and issued a receipt number on February 17, 2006 (after calling to National Customer Service Center, I was informed about my receipt number).

My case status is still showing, it will take 30-60 days to complete the process.
Currently, I am associated with a university in Japan.
Anyone have ideay or similar kind of case, who applied from outside the USA? How long it will take to get final decision?

Any help and advice will be highly appreciated.
Thank you.

Try calling the Customer Service Center at 1-800-375-5283 and ask about your case. It says to do so here if it has been more than 60 days since they receivied your application (look at the paragraph right above the big table with processing dates):

https://egov.immigration.gov/cris/jsps/Processtimes.jsp?SeviceCenter=Texas

I called after more than 60 days had passed and my application was processed shortly thereafter. Although I do not actually know if calling helped to speed up the processing of my case, it certainly cannot hurt. Another option is to write a letter directly to the Texas Service Center inquiring about your case.

Note that the processing date for waiver applications listed on the page linked to above is for hardship applications. My No Objection application was processed in March although the processing date said December and my receipt date was January (Vermont Service Center).

I do not think it matters that you live outside of the U.S. You can check the status of your case online:

https://egov.immigration.gov/cris/jsps/index.jsp

This will give you the most recent information concerning your case.

More insights regarding the final J-1 waiver

Running swede is right!

However, in my case things were a bit different! After the DOS sent a favorable recommendation based on "No Objection" the CSC issued a receipt notice stating it takes 60 to 90 days to process this kind of case. The 90 days passed and no final waiver was issued.. so I started calling the Call Center.. they told me the case has to be 30 days outside the projected processing time in order to make an inquiry.. I waited another 30 days, called again.. this time they were willing to sent an inquiry to the CSC.. the case is still pending..

The J-1 Waiver journey can be really frustrating.. it's been about 5 month since DOS sent the favorable recommendation to CSC and I still haven't received the final waiver.. I had no idea that takes that long and they don't stick to their projected processing time..

Hi Running Swede,
Thank you for advice. Yesterday, I called to the National Customer Service center (1-800-375-5283). The representative said, I need to wait more 45 days for decision. It means 60+45........days.

Mskitten is right! J1 waiver is a journey of severe mental frustration. The person who have gathered this bitter experience will never forget in his life.
