Father in 'critical condition in hospital', had to go while 'Extension' pending

Hi to all 'gurus' out there,
Advice needed. Please help me. I have filed for my '8th year extension'. Also, received 'Receipt Notice'. But, soon I had to leave US as my father in India is very sick & kept in ICU (Thank God, now he is out of ICU & stable, but still in hospital). My previous extension is valid through 7April06, but don't have visa revalidated till then. I need to return back to US to my job by April 1st week. Luckily, I got Visa-Appointment on 23March06. Now, my questions are:
1) Can I get Visa stamped on 23March06 for 15 days based on previous approval (through 7April06)?
2) Will my pending 'Extension' continue without any rejections or cancellations, if I reach US back before 7April06?
3) If you say that my pending 'Extension' doesn't get approved based on my leaving the country while in process, can I reapply if I come back a few days before 7April06?
4) Since I am on 8th year extension as my GC labor has not yet cleared, what do I answer for this question in DS-156 form, when I go for the visa-stamping on 23March06, 'Has anyone filed for Immigration Petition for you?'

you can file another one on your return, but take your receipet notice

and all relevant papers from employers conforming extn filed as there is a good chance that consulate can deny you visa for just 15 days left.
labor is not immigration petition, shockingly you don't know that even after 7 years in US?
