Dear friends,

I am studying in USA as F-1 in graduate program. I am a foreign national. I have finished my first semester. I am doing some on campus work. So I got my SSN. I want to work some off campus work in weekend. I need to use my SSN. Can any one tell me is there any legal issue to work off campus job. I appreciate u’r help.

Thanks

no you are not allowed to use that SSN off campus because by law you are not suppose to work off campus unless you are doin your CPT or OPT training. In that case you would have to get work permit authorization from immigration srevices and then you are to start working off campus. If the job is not something that is related to your career field then you wont be able to get the permission to work from immigration either.

hope this helps.

As I have replied in previous posts. It is illegal but so many students have done it and continue to do it and have gone all the way to citizenship. It is up to you in the end but definitely say to pay your taxes properly.

Advising an illegal action on a forum sponsored by a law firm is irresponsible. Actions like this might cause the sponsor problems.

OP, working without authorization is illegal. DON'T DO IT.

I am not advising anything, I am talking about the reality of what people do.
Jaywalking and underage drinking is illegal but many do it and it is stupid to deny that it exists. the problem is immigrants are already scared prior to coming year and I am explaining the reality of what exists and people have to make their own decision about what is best for them.
Neither you nor I should be telling anyone what to do but just provide them with all the information so they can make up their own mind.
