Family to follow later?

Hello all;
My question is in regards to the following questions on the DS-230 form;
31a. Person(s) named in 14 and 29 who will accompany you to the United States now.
and
31b. Person(s) named in 14 and 29 who will follow you to the United States at a later date.

I am considering traveling to the US alone to figure out the logistics, settle down and maybe secure employment before my wife & children join me. If I was to state on my form that my family will follow me at a later date, how does that work? Will we still go for the visa interview together and would need to provide the date that they would join me?

Would that make the visa process tricky for my wife and child if I was to leave them, or should one play it safe by avoiding any complication by traveling together?

Thank you!

I suppose you plan to go all together to the intvw and get your DV s stamped on PP s, that's the best way to do initially.

You can go to US first alone if and only if you are the primary winner. Others need to follow before the expiry date marked on their DV s. No, there should not be any trouble doing so separately.

Best!

You don't need to point it out right from the beginning that you may not enter the US at the same time.

Do the interview together.

After securing the visas, you may travel to the US alone and your family may travel to join you later (before their visa expires). No additional arrangements or disclosures are required.

Hi, what if i wrote that we all will travel, then i decided to travel first then they follow me, should i send mail to kentacky to modify this? or can i modify it in interview sort of changing decission ?

As long as everyone travels before the visas expire it doesn't matter. It only matters if you want them to travel more than 6 months after the interview, in which case you need to do follow-to-join.

Don't make it too complicated. You don't have to make any comment about who will arrive first and who will arrive later. Proceed as if you would all arrive at the same time.

When the time fro the actual travel comes up, you can fly first and your family can fly at a later time (before their visas expire). No explanation needed.

Thank you, i meant that i already wrote in the forms that we all will travel together ( all to join) , and now i changed my decission, so should i rewrite to them to modify my answer or it easy to dely this modification till interview date..

That's what I'm trying to say. No modification is needed; not now, not at the interview. Just buy your flight tickets as it suits you best. Keep two things in mind:

1) Your family cannot enter the US before you. (together or later than you is perfectly fine)

2) They will need to enter the US before their visa expires (usually 6 months after the visa is issued)

Dear C1984 , your answer appreciated, hope every thing will be alright with you too, the main subject is about the worry we live in every moment waiting for that day to get the Visas, Oh waiting kills really ,though many thoughts usually busy my head and worries , specially i submit my application for first time with old photo , so what will be will be

best regards

Great thanks c1984 for the clarification! All the best as well!
