F2 visa and some thoughts

My fiancee has been admitted to a well-known university in the US and she is going to the US to study in a few months. Now this has introduced a dilemma in my life and I hope to get informed opinions here. She says she wants to marry me and I can go to the US on F-2 visa. But I have many doubts about everything.

1) I am 33 years old and currently have a job which pays rather good (well, concerning general standards of living in Iran). But this has never been what I had in mind for my life and somehow I think this is a great chance for me to change my life for good and achieve my dreams about a good job and having a fuller life.

2) I haven't been admitted to the aforementioned university because of my low GPA. However, I have studied in one of the most famous universities in Iran and have worked for more than 6 years in industry. My English is rather good. My IELTS score is 7.5 and my verbal GRE is 158. I am very good with computers and have experience in web development and programming.

I know that I can't work or study on F2 visa. I just want to know that what my chances are for being admitted to a university or college and get some form of financial assistanship (I am ready to spend my savings too) so I can convert my visa to F1 and hope for a future in the US with my to-be wife.

P.S: I don't want to marry my fiancee for the benefit of a visa. Quite contrary, I want to know if it would be better for both of us to let her go alone and get on with her studies. I don't want to be a burden for her in a foreign country. Finally, I know it's a decision I have to make on my own. I just want to have a better assessment of my chances.

If you guys marry, that will be after the admission and the CO may think of it as a ruse for you to go to USA and may deny your visa. I do not know of any actual cases but it is a possibility to consider. You should also know that if you go as F2, it is not going to be cheap. F1 students usually have health insurance coverage either as part of their assistantship or they pay reduced fees; F2 dependents pay much higher fees. There are plenty of schools for you to apply, you can probably get admission to one of them, but it may be far from where she is. Again, if the CO thinks that you are applying for F1 just to be with your fiancee/wife instead of bona fide studying, you can get denied. You never know what happens with a visa application, sometimes things work out just great, sometimes they don't.
