I would really appreciate if anyone can share their F1 visa stamping experience here. I need to go to Canada to get my PR and want to get my F1 visa stamped while I am there? My current H4 visa stamp on my passport has expired and I converted over to F1 visa since last 8 months.

Thanks much for any response.

Hi,
A similar question was raised in another thread by me and Sapota replied as below:

Technically it should be possible. Since after you land, you become PR of Canada (so it sort of becomes your 'home' country). Look at US consulate Canada websites and see if they have any info. Isnt there a contact number for the US consulates in Canada??

Seems like there are not much cases for F1 in this forum. But as per the experts, getting an F1 is not a problem. Please share your experience once this is done.

Thanks,
Thomas.

When you say the experts, getting an F1 is not a problem, what do you actually mean?

Also do you have to show ties to canada and what do you show being that you are just a new canadian PR?

Is canadian PR enough ties or the question is not neccessary?

Many people are able to stamp H1 visa's once they become PR. Land in Canada, and get the H1 stamping same week or so. They are able to do this, because now that they have PR, Canada is their sort of 'home' country. I beleive this is the same case with F1.

Regarding ties to Canada, there is a requirement specified in the US Embassy as follows:
'Proof of ties/residence in country outside the U.S. which have no intentions of abandoning'

I remember doing this, when we were transfering H4 to F1. We attached a written document saying we have land, offshore company job for me (my wife has transfered to F1), she will do teaching in India, blah blah.....So I guess you have to prepare a good document saying ur intentions to stay in Canada once you finish ur studies....

I hope this helps. Appreciate if you could share your experience through out the process. All the best!!

Regards,
Thomas.
