F1 visa stamp(I-94 says D/S)

Hi,
  I am student on F1 visa.My visa expires in FEB 2002 but my I-94 says D/S which means I am in status.But next year I will be going to India and since my F1 in the passport expires I need to get it stamped.Now since the mexican and canadian embassies are closed i have to go back to India to get it stamped.I am so confused as it is not possible for me to go now.I am scared to go after my visa expires.will they create a problem even though I am in status here or is there a way out.
