Hi,

My husband is a PhD student from Bangladesh. He has been studying here in the United States for the past 7 years. This June, he went to Bangladesh for his PhD field research. He was given a letter, by the US embassy in Dhaka, stating that his visa was conditionally approved. However, he was told to undergo the security clearance process. His visa interview took place on June 12, 2006. He went for fingerprinting and paid the fee $85 for the security clearance on June 15, 2006. Since then, he has been waiting for news about the security clearance. By the middle of August, it will be 2 months since he applied and interviewed for renewing his student visa. Would anyone please tell me how long it takes for the security clearance to be completed? It has been very frustrating for both of us to wait . I would really appreciate your replies. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I know your situation, unfortunately, this is quite common nowadays. But on the other hand, you can pretty sure that the visa will be issued. Unless the person is born in middle easter countries, the clearance will be done in three months. I havent seen a case yet that has been rejected (as long as the person has mispresented details or has done something wrong).

There is no way to expedite this.. But rest assured, the visa will be issued.

Take care
Anis
