i appeared for visa interview on June 13th along with my wife at Kolkatta consulate. My total expenses was $77,634 and my I-20 showed entire funding through CitiAssist loan program. However, I had only $69,844 approved through this loan program. I had planned to finance the rest through my personal fund of $10,000.
On that fateful day Vo asked only one question. how will you fund your education. I replied for me it will be primarily through loan and for my wife through my personal funds. He asked how much personal funds you have. i said I have $10,000. He said overall the program requirement is $150,000 and i have loan of just $69,844. i said In my second year I will get the rest of the fund through CitiAssist Loan program as this is a guranteed loan program through my university (COlumbia University). He denied me visa under section 214(B) citing insufficient resources reason.
Now I have my reapplication scheduled for July 14th. These are the things I am planning to do:
1) i am planning to apply alone. I have asked my school to cancel my wife's I-20.
2) I am also reducing the loan amount on I-20 from $77,634 to $38,000.
3) I am planning to carry a FDs worth nearly 30 lakhs, $12000 in my personal saving account and I have also paid $5000 as tution deposite. So COmbinedly i am planning to show personal funds as $82,000.
4) Rest i will show as loan of $38000 is already approved. I am also securing a letter from financial aid office which will state that since I am an international student citiassist loan program will always take care of any shortage of funds for me.
5) I am also carrying property document showing my father's land and house and my family ancestral propeties which also include large plots of land and house.
6) My entire family is in India and noone abroad.
7) My parents are retiring in 2009 and I definitely need to return for them after my studies.
My questions;
1) Do i stand a chance in my second attempt.
2) Suggest me any week points you see in my startegy.
3) can I apply at Delhi this time and not kolkatta. I had enquired from Chennai post and they said I can apply there since I live in hyderabad. But I am not getting any dates in Chennai.
