F1 VISA: how much time before I have to leave the country?

Hello,
I am an International student from Ireland, now in the US on an F1 VISA, and am taking the Spring semester at a community college. I don't intend to take either the summer semester or Fall semester, but do plan to come back after sometime(which I know I will have to reapply for).

My question is, if I do not intend to go to school in August(Fall semester), how long do I have after THIS semester finishes (end of May) to leave the country?

Can I stay until August, or do I have to leave as soon as school
finishes? Thanks for any help on this, I will appreciate it very much if you could point me to any relevant BCIS link.

Thanks a lot,

If you are maintaining your status until August, then you do not have to leave until that time. I am not up to date on the recent requirements to maintain one's F1 status during the summer. Ask the international students advisor at your college (whoever signed your I-20) casually about the requirements for summer without telling him or her that you intend to discontinue temporarily.

Hi, I appreciate your help. However, I am aware that if I maintain my status till August, I have no reason to worry. What I am looking for is, if somebody (or some website-link) can confirm the number of days I have before which I must leave USA. That is, if I have 10 days or 60 days or whatever, after I am done with my school semester.

Thanks.

any period of study and any authorized training period, plus 60 days.

Question 8. I had Optional Practical Training and it is now expired. Is it true I can stay 60 days after that date? Top

The duration of one's student status includes any period of study and any authorized training period, plus 60 days.
