Hello Everyone,
I completed my program of study in April 2010 and have been issued an OPT valid rom May 2010 to May2011. I had started working for a company while on OPT. My F1 Visa stamping expired in June 2009. Due to unexpected death of my father in law, I had to travel to India on July 10th 2010. I had to go US embassy in Delhi for my F1 Visa extension. The VO didn't extend my F1 with the reasoning that I have already completed my program of study. OPT is a an optional training and there is no need to get a VISA extension and go back to USA. I had all the valid documents including valid I-20 and all financial statements. I also took offer letter from my employer as a proof of employment.

At this point, I am totally devastated. Please help me what should I do. Shall I go for the apeal. Has there benn anyone else on this forum who had gone through the same senario. Please help. Thanks a million.

Hi,

DId you go to India while on OPT and get your F1 stamping done? Even I am planning to go to India while on OPT and I have to get my F1-Stamping.

Is it risky? please Advise.

Thanks,
Pooja Reddy

any updates please

Hi,
Any updates on your VISA stamping? please let us know. I think this is a common problem for which most students are waiting for any inputs.
Thank you for your time!

If you leave the US in F-1 OPT status, you should be aware of the following requirements for reentry to the US. You should be prepared to present ALL 6 of the following documents at the US Port of Entry upon returning to the US

1. Your valid passport.
2. A valid F-1 entry visa in your passport.
3. A valid DSO signature for reentry on page 3 of your OPT I-20.
4. Your valid OPT EAD card.
5. An official job offer letter for OPT.
6. Recent bank statements which show that you have funding to support yourself in the US while on OPT.
