My friend is on the 221g pending status for the spring semester, which has already started. In the meantime, he decided to apply to other schools for the fall semester too, since he doesn't know how long the "administrative" prodecure is going to take. From all the research that he has done so far, it seems like it can take anywhere from 2 weeks to 3 months. He had his visa interview on Jan. 8th , but he is still waiting to hear from the US embassy in Mumbai. The website specifically mentions that donot contact the consulate, they will contact you.
Anyway, my question is that, if he gets into another school and they send him his I-20, does he need to make another visa appointment? I mean his visa is still pending, so I guess he can't do that. so, after he gets his visa, can he choose to join the new schools onstead of teh original school he decided to go to, for which he had his visa?
The program of study is the same in both cases (PhD) and even the state is the same. But the semesters are different (Spring 08 vs. Fall 08).
Thanks for any help.
