hello,
i really need advice on this please let me know what you suggest.
i came to the states in dec 1999 to obtain my undergrad degree, my I-20 expires in Dec 2005, however they gave me a visa for 4 years, i went to the states and study, last summer Jun 2004 i had to re-new my visa, i did renew it and it took me like 2 month and a half for the name check, it was clear and they give me another F1 visa til Dec 2005.
I finished my undergrad in Dec 2004 and started my master degree,, my master degree I-20 expires on Feb. 2007 , am plannin to finish my master in may 2006 and then apply for OPT, my current visa will expire in Dec 2005 as i mentioned. now i'm backhome for vacation, do you suggest me to go and renew my visa so they give me a visa valid til Feb 2007 , so i have no problem obtaining my OPT and using it,, since i have to go backhome every summer (it's a must) . or you recommend me to stay on my current visa and apply for another one next summer for OPT (i heared it's more risky), or is there any other option i can do since my Master I-20 will expire in Feb 2007 ? "i'm plannin in graduating in may 2006 as i mentioned"
please let me know what you suggest as soon as possible

Best Regards,

Best Regards,

Someone must have misinformed you that due to the visa you have in your passport, its more likely to get OPT. OPT is the must after you finish your gratuation and you earned it. So ignore, if there is any fact, that you will have any complication in getting the OPT. Your visa is a key to enter US, after that its nothing. Once you have valid I-20, thats what your visa is and the duration you can stay in US. If you need to come home every summer, and since your visa will expire in Dec 05, next year around May 06, you will already file your OPT which is the clear mention in your I-20. They might not issue you visa, so its better off getting visa this time then wait for next time to arrive.

thanks for your replay,,, now if i went to stamp my visa and got rejucted. would my old visa which will expire in Dec 2005 be canceled ? or i still can travel with it. and what the chances of gettin rejucted in my case ?
also if i come back next year with an I-20 for PHD would it be easier to get my visa stamp or it's easier to get it stamp on OPT , because i was thinking of doing my PHD after finishin the OPT , but if it's easier to get it on PHD i might go for it ?
