Hi all,
This is my first post. I got residency this yr and my program sponsors J1 visa. Presently Iam on F1 status. I want to know if anyone has changed their status from F1 to J1 first time in Mexico. Actually I dont want to go to India for the change of status. Any input will be appreciated. Thanks.

i think you are supposed to get J1 from your home country only. that was the rule atleast until a year ago.

If you have F1 visa stamped in your passport, it should not be very difficult to get J1 stamped. But if you changed to F1 in US, then you should only change your status here w/o getting it stamped.
Don't try to get J1 from Mexico or other countries.

Hi PsychMD7,

You wrote it was a rule until one year ago, about initial J1 stamping must be at home country,

Two of my friends have successfully stamped their J1 at Toronto last year.

Have you known anything specifically that strictly suggests to go to India only?

Hi Ajesha,

Thanx in anticipation.
