F1 to H4

Hi all:

I am currently on F1 practical training which expeires on Oct 31. When is a safe time to transfer to a H4 (of my spouse's H1) and remain in status.

Also is it possible to later transfer to a J1 from an H4. What is the procedure for this

File before your OPT expires, preferably a bit earlier (dont rely on the 60 day grace period after expiration of OPT).

Yes, to change from H4 to J1, file I-539 with supporting documents.

It takes 20-40 days to get I-539 approved. I have an I-539 in progesss (Mine is from H4 to F-1) and today is the 36th day and there is no sign of approval. So i'll say do it now.
