F1 to H4 Transfer

Hi,
I am working in the US on H-1 Visa. I got married in
India. My wife came to the US on F-1 visa 2 weeks
back.

Now she wants to defer studies by 1 year.

Can she transfer from F1 to H4(dependent status) now?
If yes, should she go to India to do the same?

What's the procedure?

Not sure if your wife was asked about her marital status when she applied for the F1 visa or not. However you can apply for change of status if marriage is conducted and registered in US. Consult a lawyer for latest changes in INS rules. While the application is pending for approval in a worse case scenario you wife may end up going to school for at least a semester.
