Hello! I need some help with my situation.
I came to the US as an international student holding an F-1 visa, I applied and got my OPT authorization a year ago which ended on August of this year (2012). I recently got engaged to my long-term boyfriend
who has been holding an H1B visa for the past 3 years but, according to the OPT rules I have to either change my visa status or leave the US by October.
In addition, Im eligible for a TN visa and I am currently in the process of getting the sponsorship for it, but I havent received the job offer letter from the company yet. I dont want to get the H4 visa because I know I wouldnt be able to work, but Im not sure IF and HOW I could change my status so I can stay legally in the country and still be able to work.
If I get married and get the H4 visa, can I still change my status to TN once I get the job offer from the company that is willing to sponsor me?
How long would I have to wait to do this change?
OR Do you think is better to hold the wedding until I get the TN visa?
