F1 to H1

I am a PhD student in EE and i got my MS in EE in June 2003.
Due to some family problems I need to leave my Phd and start working.
If some employer files for my H1 visa (in the next year quota) what will be my status during the processing time. I will be applying based on MS qualifications (software related).

Shall I continue taking courses for the next Fall 2005 (atleast till October 1).
In the worst case what if my visa gets rejected , will my F1 status stays intact. can I then continue studying on my old F1 status. Because I dont want to be out of status in any case.

Any advice/suggestion will be very helpful

If your H1 rejected your status will be F1 only. You can continue studying you PhD with your old F1
