I entered US in Jan 2008 on F1 Visa for my PhD. As more interesting things came about, along with a few friends, we decided to launch a start up. It's an incorporated company now and applied for my H1. I now have the official H1B status change approval which will be active from Oct 1st 2008.
I am taking my summer term off. However, technically to maintain my F1 status, I should go back and register for school in the fall (August 2008). I was wondering if there is any other better way (avoiding legal issues) to get through this period because paying for a complete school term (it's a lot of money) when I will be dropping out in 2 months seems to be like an unnecessary expense. (Even if I opt to take my current assistantship to get a waiver, that would be unfair from me to do so if I plan to leave in the middle of the term - which leaves me the option to pay the fee to keep the status).
Any alternative solutions with which I can avoid/minimize my registration and still hold a legal status through out would be great.
Thanks
Siva.
