I was reading the instructions for filing I-131 for AP, and I seem to get the impression that everyone *but* F1 visa holders can apply for I-131 along with the I-485, I-130, I-765 packet. (Meaning that if I want to travel while the I-485 is in process, then I have to file an immediate AP request just before the time I want to travel and not ahead-of-time with my packet right now? My USC husband and I want to travel overseas in 8-10 months from now)

Is this true or am I awake too late and reading more than what's written on the paper?:o

Advance Parole

Once I-485 is filed and your have the letter indicating pending status, advance Parole these days is given on the same day. Please fill up your forms and write a letter why you to travel out of the country. Go to BCIS local office, stand in line and generally in 2-3 hours you get it.

Thank you! How dire do my circumstances have to be to convince them that I need to travel? Do I need some sort of a letter from home (India) that someone is sick and/or dying to prove to them? Or does it depend on a case-by-case office-by-office thing?

My circumstances were not Dire, and I was granted an AP without problem -

I submitted for an AP document in the Hartford office (where my GC case is being handled) to go visit my family in Spain, specifically for my Father's 60th birthday.

When I presented my application, the immigration officer asked me for a letter explaining the reason I wanted to travel, which I did not have (didn't know about the requirement). She proceeded to give me a pen and a blank piece of paper, and I handwrote the letter explaining the reason for my desire to travel.

The application was accepted and I received the AP documentation 30 days later without any issues. :)

Hope this helps,

Jose

Awsome .. thank you! So there is some discrepancy in the time it takes to get the AP document .. depending on the office maybe? Coz you say it took 30 days, and a couple other people said the same day or 2-3 days. I'm suspecting its got to do with the urgency implied in the supporting document (letter).
