okay, so i won the dv lottery for this year, and was originally go through the consular process. went and saw a lawyer just to be safe. she helped me fill out the forms and after 20 minutes, when I dropped the term adjustment of status, she got on the internet and we found out the following:
I am on a non-immigrant visa.
Should they run out of Green Cards between me being notified of the interview and me actually getting to the embassy in Frankfurt, Germany, then I would be stuck there, and loose my F1. Not only that- my intent to immigrate would hinder getting another non-immigrant visa for a long period of time.
So adjustment of status it is. F1 allows me to go on OPT for one year. after that, if the status is not adjusted yet, I will have to get a workvisa. I am 23 and about to plunge into the real world/ job market for the first time in my life. on top of that, i live in new orleans, and who knows if we are not going to be blown off the map any time these days. so i am not really sure if i will find an employer willing to do the paperwork...
i am graduating with a B.A. in Film Production this August. My case number is 7xxx. Can anyone tell me what that means? I know the cutoff for that number is between january and february, but how does that affect my adjustment of status procedure? my lawyer said she would check my number and then let me know if I should do it or not.
Also, I was thinking this: returning to germany in august, doing the consulate thing, and then hopefully returning on a GC. and if it doesn't work out, I will come back in 2 years and get my Master's.
PLEASE help. I am confused, overwhelmed, and have no clue what to do.
