F1 student applying for adjustment of status, Husband is unemployed

Hello there!
I am currently an F1 student, & I got married a few months ago to a US citizen.
We are in the process of filing the paperwork to adjust my status, & everything was going well until we hit a huge obstacle.
My husband & I are still in college, I will be graduating in December, & he will be graduating in May. He has not worked in the past years.
I have found a co-sponsor that has enough income to sponsor me, but apparently since my husband & I got married, now he has become an "independent" as of 2012 & I have been told that my husband needs to find a job or else our paperwork will be denied.
Is it true? Does my husband need to find a job & earn income this year to be able for us to file the paperwork & be accepted?
I am very worried because my I-20 is expiring end of december, & if he gets a job, we won;t be able to file anything until then, & I will have to go back to France.
Please help me, I have been so worried ever since I heard the news, & I really don't want to be away from him.
Thank you for your help!

No it's not true. If the joint sponsor has enough income, the petitioner (your husband) does not have to work or have any other income. However, he will still have to file an I-864 (although it will have many zeroes) in addition to the I-864 or I-864A filed by the other sponsor.
