I got a residency on J1 and plan to apply for a change of status from F1(OPT) to J1. My OPT is valid until 15th MAy. My studnet visa is valid until 2007. I had a couple of q's .
1)Since my residency starts on July 1st there will be a gap of 45 days between my OPT expiration date and starting date of residency. Do I need to fill this gap with summer courses or something in order to be eligible for a change of status.
2) Can I apply for J1 at embassy while my COS is still pending and unlikely to be done before orientation.
