F1 marrying to GC holder

advice

I m on f1 visa and could marry a GC holder (she is holding GC for 3 years), I read online that there is a backlog of 8-10 years for the process. I don't want to wait for that long, is it possible to get a work permit to work or something like that after marriage. Girls parents told me that they will apply for my sponsorship after the marriage, is that a quick way to GC?

Please help.

It's not 8-10 years, it's 4-5 years for the spouse of a GC holder. See the F2A category in the visa bulletin.

However, for you it should be a lot less than 4-5 years, because once she becomes a US citizen your case can be upgraded to Immediate Relative of US Citizen and you'll get the green card a few months later.

Will I be able to get the work permit, for that period of time? I also read that I have to maintain my F1 status, is that true?

An LPR filing for a spouse does NOT grant the spouse legal status in the US. If the spouse falls out of status, he will be unable to AOS.

Of you do not want to wait for the GC, it sounds like this is a marriage for a GC rather than love.

You can get the F1-OPT work permit, but you can't file for AOS or the AOS-related work permit before completing the 4-5 year wait or she becomes a US citizen. And you have to maintain your F1 status or some other legal status like H1B while you wait for AOS eligibility.
