F1 (grad school) to H1B (rejected) back to F1 possible?

I have a question...

I finished my undergrad and completed OPT. I decided to attend grad school and got the new I-20 for my new school. I haven't left the country for a while so I don't have a visa stamped in my passport.

I just received an offer for an H1B with a company. I haven't even started grad school! I have to travel back home in 2 months for a couple of weeks. I was planning on getting my F1 stamped while there, but now it could be an H1B stamp.

My question is, if this H1B gets rejected, can I still go to the US consulate in my home country and show them my new I-20 and ask for my F1 visa stamp? I just want to know if applying for H1B and having it denied will immediately cancel my recently obtained F1 status for grad school??

Thanks so much and sorry if this is confusing!
