Hi,
I am a green card holder. My wife from India is here on a L1A and would like to enroll in a PhD program. We have NOT applied for her green card. I was wondering how difficult it is to get a F1 assuming she gets admission with aid in a reasonably good university. I have heard that being the spouse of a green card holder might result in problems for a F1 application in indian consulates. Her sister is also a green card holder. I am concerned that if my wife applies for a F1 in India, it might be denied because I and her sister are permanent residents. Is this a justified concern or would it be reasonable to apply for F1 in India (chennai)?
Is it possible for my wife to apply for the F1 here while on the L1A? I see threads about H1 to F1 transfers but I am not sure if this is possible with L1A. Could someone please throw some light on this?
Thanks!
