F1 extension, OPT application, India trip

Hello
My F1 expires May 24 2005. But, I will not graduate until December 2005. Is there any way to extend F1 (I will extend the I-20 at the school) here in the US? If not, is it true that the safer option is to extend it back in India?
I have to attend a conference in Canada from May 23-May28 2005. Can I go to Canada with a valid I-20 and passport (but return back with an "expired" visa?)
I will apply for an OPT 90 days before I graduate. If I did not extend my F1 visa at that time, can I go to India after I graduate and came back with an OPT, but an expired visa?If that is not possible, is there any way I can goto India still at that time?
Thanks

Please ignore the third question. I knew the answer and it is obvious that I cannot enter into the US with an expired visa. I will have to apply for a visa in India hoping to convince the visa officials that I am entering the US for my graduation. I am not sure if this will be close or ok?
