F1 and OPT

My wife is on a F1 visa and completes her course shortly. She will be applying for an OPT. Can she travel during her application process? Or is it better to wait till she receives it. Once she receives her OPT papers can she travel then even though her F1 is only valid till December 03 in her visa?

No, she can't travel while her application is pending with the USCIS. You should wait till its approved

I am not sure if its safe to travel on OPT. Is her F1 visa stamped on the passport or was just a change of status within US.

When did she apply? Which service centre? Vermont is approving in 1.5 months.
 
Her F1 visa is stamped in her passport. Her I20 states that her course completes in Dec03. Of course this did not take into account that she will do an OPT after the course. She applied on November 10, Vermont. I am hoping it comes around late February and we can travel after that. Her school said that to travel she will need an entry in the I20 even though she is on OPT. Thanks for your input
