Hi,
A friend of mine has found herself in a pretty peculiar situation.
Perhaps someone has had some experience in this and can advise.
She is a student, on F-1 visa.
Due to some circumstances she did not extend her work authorization for working part time during the year and as a result her I-20 was revoked and she was given a new one.
So she had to re-enter the US with her new I-20 that states the reason her previous I-20 was revoked, in order to get back in status.
She decided to drive to the Canadian border, stay the night in Canada and re-enter the US in the morning.
She crossed the Canadian border and the officer would not take the I-94 from the passport, when she started asking why he referred her to the US officials.
She went to talk to the US officials, at the US border, and the officer there confirmed that I-94 is taken only if exiting the US by plane and in the course of the conversation he looked at her new I-20, pointed her attention to the fact that her advisor forgot to sign her I-20 and when my friend returns she needs to make sure the I-20 gets signed and then he stamped the new I-20.
So now, she is out of US, with the old I-94 and a new stamped, but not signed I-20.
Is that right - the old I-94 should stay upon entering/exiting by car ?
Will the signature absence give any trouble upon entering tomorrow morning ?
Thanks!
