Hi Friends,

I am an Indian student and I have been accepted to an American public university with a full ride scholarship covering the full direct cost ( Tution, Room and board ). I will go to the US for my undergraduate studies.

I have a few questions:

1. The University is low ranked, will that have an affect on my visa application?

2. My I-20 says that I need $2961 per year, I have around $13000 in liquid funds and fixed assets worth $160000, will this satisfy my financial obligations?

3. How do I show " intent to return "? Will my ancestral properties and family ties be suffice? Also, I will be majoring in Computer Science; for the VO, will the booming IT industry back home be a good enough economic pull to come back?

4. I have a 2150 SATscore and a very high school record, will this be a boost to my application?

5. The director of admissions of my University has written a letter on my behalf to the Visa officer, will that help? If yes, how should I show it to him?

Please answer my queries, I am quite nervous!! Interview in just three days!!

Visa

Hi,

Congratulations on your admission. Hope you have enough funds to support your education. In the visa interview, you can disclose about your liquid funds rather than showing your ancestral property. If the ancestral property is not in your name, it won't work.

Hope it helps.

Thanks!

Can someone give a comprehensive list of documents that I need to take with me to the consulate. My list is as follows:

School mark sheets
SAT score report
Admission and scholarship offer letter
Loan sanction letter
Co-sponsor's bank statement
Asset statement
Some email conversation with program coordinator.

Also, I am low on liquid funds so is $13000 fine enough if my I-20 states a cost of $3000.

Thanks again! :)

The other thing that everyone is telling me is that Visa is denied when you can't prove the VO that you are not a possible immigrant.

So, what is the best possible way to prove the VO that you'll come back?

I can't really miss this opportunity; a full ride to study Computer Science in a US university is too big an opportunity to miss so I am really very nervous!!!!

Hey Americandream13..you don't have to worry..if you are getting full scholarship from school then 99% your VISA will be approved....

Basically what you need is to make sure you convince them that you have absolutely NO INTENTION to remain in the USA after you have completed your study .This can be proved by example having a letter from your country from a company showing the intent to hire you upon your completion of the studies, also a lot of tangible assets in your country that show that you have ties to your country and all you are coming to the USA to do is just study then go back to India. Also you might want to do some extensive research about the college, they might ask where it is located , why you chose that college/university and not any other, and what you like about the college(this can be things like a certain program that they offer, if it is a small school you can say the student- professor ratio and have the numbers , if its a big college you can say its the size of college which gives you access and exposure to more people enabling you to learn more.....)

When it comes to funds please note that they want to make sure that you have enough funds to cover your expenses tuition and boarding while in the USA. That you WILL NOT be working to pay for school and that all your finances are coming from your home country. So make sure you have bank statements showing enough funds are available for the 4 years of college.

So all you need is
1. a good explanation of why you want to study in the USA and not India
2. Why that university/college and not any other
3. Details about the University/college ( location , college/university president...)
4. Enough funds to cover your TUITION and BOARDING ( note that YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO WORK TO MAKE MONEY WHILE IN THE USA under and F1 visa)
5. You need to show your intent to return to India upon the completion of your study. I recommend that you show this in paper form with stuff like letters , title deeds , businesses that you own or your family owns....the more the better!!!
6. You education documents ( they like a continuity of study ..like if you completed high school in 2009 they give an year of absence from school then you MUST explain what you have been doing since then ..so be prepared for that if you have been taken a break from school for a long time..if you have been working i would recommend that you take your letters..have an explanation of what you have been doing since you completed school.
7. Sevis fee ..i am assuming that you ahve already taken care of the SEVIS fee and all that...

Congratulations on being accepted and good luck...i was once in the same situation as you...

Thanks for such an informative post. I hope it'll be helpful to others who come to this forum for information.

My case was a bit different though; my visa was approved within minutes and I wasn't asked anything other than my SAT scores! :)

Congratulations on the visa process being smooth for you :) I am curious, can you give a little background on your process for securing the scholarship? I wasn't aware full scholarships like this were available in some fields.

Again, congratulations and all the best for your studies in the US.
