Hi,
I came to the US as a dependent with H-4 visa stamped in my passport.Later I changed to F-1 status in the US and completed my Masters Program here.I now had 1year OPT/EAD remaining on the F-1 status. My passport still has the old H-4 visa stamp. But i had valid I-20 now for one more year with F-1 OPT status. I am now planning to go to Mexico for getting my passport stamped with the F-1 visa status. Is there any problem in going to Mexico
and getting my password stamped.
Do I need to go to my home country only to get the passport stamped with the F-1 status.
Please help

Regardless where you apply--in Mexico or in your home country--in order to get an F1 visa, you must be enrolled or plan to be enrolled as a fulltime student. Otherwise you can't get a new F1, even I-20 is still valid. I don't think you can apply/get an F1 while on OPT.

Now that you completed you studying there is no reason for the embassy to give you an f1 visa. However, if you want to enroll in a doctoral program which can issue an I-20 for the next couple years and you willing to do that there should not be a problem. If you do not want to do a doctor degree then apply for H1B or green card.
