F-1 to OPT to H-1

Hello,
I don't know whether somebody posted this before.
Actually, I'm now in OPT starting from April 28, 2008 and working in a compnay A. I've applied for H-1 in general quota and my case was approved few days back.

I've applied for H-1 before this 19 month extension rule.
I want to utilise my OPT period fully. Is there any way that I can delay the starting date of my H-1 from october 1, 2008 to the end of my OPT period?

Is that possible?

Thank you very much.

Did you receive the I-94 attached with the approval notice? Or do you have to get the visa stamped at an US consulate abroad?

In the latter case, you can keep working on OPT beyond October 1, 2008. whenever you are ready to switch status, travel out of the US, obtain H-1B stamping and re-enter US with H-1.

Thank you very much for the reply. I haven't received the I-94 with the approval notice. I think, I have to go to an US consulate abroad to get my Visa Stamped. Do I need to inform USCIS about my decision of continuing in OPT, after October 1, 2008? How does it work?

All right ... so you received the I-94 along with the approval notice. In that case your case was filed as 'change of status'. As a result your status will be automatically changed to H-1B from October 1, 2008.

I don't think you have any other options of continuing on OPT beyond October 1, 2008.

Finally found the topic :D

I have a question:

If I am on OPT after getting MS and my OPT expires on January 2nd, but my employer is willing to apply for my H1B in April, what would be a way to apply without becoming out of status? Should I take classes for a semester from January to April or is there any other way to do it? Thanks in advance

what I meant was any temporary visa like F-1 etc. But that should be valid until September 20. So you may have to take classes till that date. Please read this link for your information.
