Hi!
I was on OPT from January 2004 to September 2004. And then switched to H-1B from October onwards.
My questions are:
1) Will I be considered a non-resident alien for 2004 as I clearly disqualify the Substantial presence test?
2) If I am considered a non-resident alien for 2004, can I fill 1040NR?
3) Can I claim standard deduction as F-1 students for the whole year(under US-India tax treaty)?
4) Besides standard deduction, can I claim tax exemption(line38 in 1040NR) as a single (not-married person)?
Thank you for any kind of insight.
Regards
Raj
