f-1 to I-140?

I am half way through my F-1 OPT and might also have an approved labor certification. I wanted to find out about the timing of filing the I-140 with filing of h-1b. Does filing I-140 while on OPT jepordize the future application for h-1b? or the status of the OPT? Especially when I go to the counsulate to get h-1b stamping next year and am asked about "Has a immigration ever been filed for you?"

As far as I know, H1 is a dual intent Visa, thus allowing GC application. I dont think F1 is of a dual intent.

The safest bet would be to transfer to H1 and then file for 140.

Again, my opinion. I stand corrected if other gurus think otherwise.
