F-1 to B2 Change of Status

How does USCIS view a change of status application from F-1 visa to B2 (visitor) visa? I just graduated from a Master's program and continue to live in the US on the 60-day grace period after F-1 visa expiration so I can look for a job and convert to an H-1B. The B2 visa would give me additional time for the job hunt.

Has anyone managed to do this change of status from F-1 to B2 after graduation? Also, any issues with subsequent change of status from B2 to H-1B?

Please let me know.

If you have not found a job by now, you are not likely to do so soon. Remember, a US degree was never a guarantee of a job in the US. Last I heard fewer than 20% of recent grands had obtained jobs in their field by graduation. (reREmember H1B is not for just any job.) Since another 1/2 million jobs were lost last week, job prospects are bleak.

In order to obtain your student visa, you had to demonstrate ties to your home country. Your desire to remain in the US by any means contradicts the non-immigrant intent of a B2 visa. Will you be granted a visa is anyones guess. Since you will exhaust the 60 day grace period before a B2 could possibly processed as a COS, a denial will reflect badly on any future visa applications.

IMO, you should return to you home andcontinue your job search from there.
