Hi all,

I am currently in F-1 visa status. I won the DV 2011 and still in the whole DV process.
I would like to ask F-1 winner in previous years.
After you got your GC, did you still have to wait one more year before you got in-state tuition fee or you got it right away?
Thanks in advance !! ^^

That's right. Once you are an official permanent Resident of the United States you have to live another one year in the state to have the right to apply for in state tuition.

However since your already paying international fees and presumably in the middle of your studies I don't think you can reverse the tuition fees now, even if you happen to change to permanent residence status.

Most 'in-state tuition' laws require PR s to live in state for 1 yr from PR date.
Ask your reg. & records dept for specifics.

However....as soon as you get PR status in hand, talk to your intl. office and get yourself OUT of 'F visa student' requirements....i.e. No longer has to pay compulsory imm. fees and intl. student health insurance fees etc.
To do that you may have to fill in a specific form in which you request the school to terminate your SEVIS record.

Remember, you CAN ask to withdraw from SEVIS as soon as you file i-485 BUT IT IS VERY RISKY. So wait till you get GC in hand and otherwise maintain F status to the full till i-485 intvw.

Best !

Everybody got the same thing. I received the same paper with a "PAID on date" stamp.

Also, you can ask this question on the DV-2011 AOS thread for better answers. And please add your AOS timeline in your signature.

Thank you all for the replies. I guess I need to consider postponing my education for a year..(sigh)..
